Best Science Fiction Show

September 8, 2007

Star Trek has nothing on Stargate. Everyone who knows a good sci fi show knows Stargate, thats because it’s awesome. Stargate takes place on Earth in the present day and is about a team called SG-1 which travels to other planets through the Stargate. The Stargate is an inter-dimensional wormhole that travels to thousands of planets in more than one galaxy, It was built by an ancient race called the Alterans (ancients). SG-1’s main duty is to travel to other planets, and explore them. The first show introduces the team to the Goa’uld a parasitic race of symbiodes who take humans as their hosts and pose as ancient gods. The Goa’uld are hostile towards anyone that could be a threat and they are constantly trying to take out Earth but SG-1 always saves the day. I myself have seen all of Stargate SG-1 and loved it more than the alternative StarTrek which started getting old during Enterprise. Honourable mention: Farscape the peace keeper wars that was pretty awesome. Now that Stargate SG-1 will be over after the two movies that come out I am watching Atlantis a spinoff of the Stargate series, I have watched to Season 3 the last show so far, it is a cliffhanger. More on Atlantis another day. My award to best Sci-Fi tv series goes to STARGATE SG-1 for it’s action and story intense shows that still have a side of exploration and discovery. What a great series.

Metroid Prime 3 is really awesome

September 7, 2007

A few days ago I got Metroid Prime 3. I love it, the controls revolutionize first person shooters. But graphics don’t push the Wii to the limits but they are very nice, they have a nicer look than many PS3 and Xbox 360 games odviously they can’t compete with Halo 3 or Killzone 2.  Other games I am excited about are Battalion Wars 2, Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros Brawl.  In a few weeks I will have beaten the game, and will post a review on NintenPro.

Google internet revolution

August 19, 2007

When most think of the internet they instantly think of google.  Thats because Google has done so much to change the internet.  The Google search for example is the best around it will always find results and usually the ones you want.  They have created online word processors, maps, google earth, blogger, movie reviews, and more they have made a huge influence.  Just think where would you find websites without Google?  Imagine a world without Google, it wouldn’t be as good.  Imagine searching for videos without Google, they do own YouTube.

YouTube vs. Viacom: then come Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart

YouTube vs. Viacom: into the ring come Colbert and Stewart

By Joshua S. Hill

Thursday, August 16, 2007

It was only a matter of time before a big entertainment conglomerate attempted to bring their full weight down on the head of internet video giant YouTube, and it was Viacom – the company behind MTV,Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central – that has made the first move. With a twist though, as they have sided with The Football Association Premier League Ltd and indie music label Bourne Co.

Filed with the New York federal court, the suit alleges that YouTube is“…pursuing a deliberate strategy of engaging in, permitting, encouraging, and facilitating massive copyright infringement on the YouTube website”.

The aim of the suit is to draw Google in to a stranglehold where its ability to publish any content is severely restricted. Any further restrictions set upon the YouTube design will mean slower upload times, more checks along the way and less freedom for those who are actually providing decent content. In addition the suit hopes to acquire unspecified damages for past violations.

Thankfully though, Google has deep, deep pockets; really deep! And they’ve announced that they want to depose approximately 30 people, including well known and beloved comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. The two funny men, whose shows are broadcast over the Viacom network’s Comedy Central, are surprising additions to a list that includes Viacom Chairman Sumner Redstone and CEO Philippe Dauman.

No doubt Viacom will be arguing shortly that the deposition of these two funny men is entirely irrelevant to the case, however pundits – including this humble reporter – disagree. In fact these two may very well be the lynch pin in a case that could very well change the face of the internet as we currently know it.

It is well known that both comedians are big fans of YouTube, with Stewart often showcasing funny clips found on the social networking video site on his own show, whereas Stephen Colbert has openly asked people to spread his work across the internet, using YouTube and other video sites. Why have they focused so much attention on this website? The answer is simple, because they understand where media is heading, and what needs to happen so that television stars like themselves can stay in business.

The issue is of course the fact that Viacom – along with many of the major industry heavies across the television, movie and music spectrum – are literally entirely clueless when it comes to the future. They are so wrapped up in the current way of doing things that they are unable to see what is happening outside of their bubble. They receive reports that their ratings are dropping, and that this “internet” thing is picking up speed – “as if it will last”.

Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart may never make it to an official setting, but they have already made themselves an intrinsic part of the debate that will no doubt be waged for several years to come. We can only sit back and hope that the noise we make from out here in the bleachers is heard all the way up in their tall towers.

More on SuperBad that is actually SuperGood

August 17, 2007

New U.S. Release

Superbad

By TODD MCCARTHY

'Superbad'
Christopher Mintz-Plasse, left, Jonah Hill and Michael Cera are on a quest to buy beer and lose their virginity in director Greg Mottola’s ‘Superbad.’

A Sony Pictures Entertainment release of a Columbia Pictures presentation of an Apatow Co. production. Produced by Judd Apatow, Shauna Robertson. Executive producers, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg. Co-producer, Dara Weintraub. Directed by Greg Mottola. Screenplay, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg.

Seth – Jonah Hill
Evan – Michael Cera
Fogell – Christopher Mintz-Plasse
Officer Slater – Bill Hader
Officer Michaels – Seth Rogen
Becca – Martha MacIsaac
Jules – Emma Stone
Nicola – Aviva
Francis the Driver – Joe Lo Truglio
Mark – Kevin Corrigan

The bawdy jokes score big points, but it’s the rueful acknowledgement of adolescent embarrassment and humiliation that most distinguishes “Superbad,” another ultra-raunchy and commercial sex comedy from the Judd Apatow laugh factory. Co-written by and featuring “Knocked Up” star Seth Rogen, this very cheesy-looking account of three horndogs’ long night’s journey into hazy self-awareness is like “American Pie” with a conscience. Fixation on all manner of bodily functions and a plethora of outrageously out-there gags guarantee strong teen and date-night turnout, although demos will skew younger than for “Knocked Up” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin.” Pic will never die as a high school and frathouse keg-party favorite.

SuperBad is Super Good

August 17, 2007

According to the reviews I have seen, SuperBad is not your run of the mill movie and it isn’t SuperBad. Part of the review conducted by ReelViews.net

What if Quentin Tarantino collaborated with John Hughes on a teen comedy? Superbad is a decent approximation of what the result might be. As with Borat, there are no sacred cows here. The movie, produced by Judd Apatow, written by Seth Rogan & Evan Goldberg, and directed by Greg Mottola, pushes the genre’s envelope a little farther than anything before it has done. It recalls American Pie but with less nudity (in fact, there’s none to speak of) and dialogue that is more clever and more profane. The movie is frequently amusing and occasionally uproarious. The plot is straightforward as befits a production that’s more about jokes, dialogue, and character interaction than narrative progression. The protagonists are three stereotypical male high school seniors whose thoughts turn to sex once every 3.5 seconds. There’s Evan (Michael Cera), who’s close to an “average guy” – shy around girls but open with his friends. Seth (Jonah Hill) is overweight and pugnacious, and aware that his appearance doesn’t make him a babe-magnet. Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) is the uber-nerd whose social inadequacies and lack of emotional maturity allow him to think that the single moniker of “McLuvin” is a good name on a fake I.D. Fate gives the boys an opportunity to impress some girls by getting alcohol for a party. Seth has his eyes on Jules (Emma Stone), the organizer of the party. Evan is after Becca (Martha MacIsaac), a girl in his math class. And Fogell has chosen Nicola (Aviva), whose provocative manner of dress leaves him tongue-tied. Their misadventures take them to strange places and cause them to run afoul of Officers Slater (Bill Hader) and Michaels (Seth Rogan), the most inept cops this side of Hot Fuzz.
